Christian Kids Songs: What is Christian Music?

I attended a one-year Bible school in my late-teens and learned many valuable things about myself and God.

I remember in one of the classes, the professor asked, “What defines Christian Music?”The Joy of Christian Kid's Songs

I think it’s a pretty good question, considering many people view Christian music as boring ballad-like praise songs or soft-rock. Others think Christian bands are those on a Christian-owned music label, or songs that are written by someone who is a Christian. In the end, the class agreed with the professor that Christian music is not defined by radio stations or music labels, but by lyrics. Christian music means songs that glorify God and edify and encourage people. I think the same guidelines apply to Christian kids songs.

Christian kids songs should be one’s that glorify God, and edify and encourage children. To glorify means to “give glory, honor or high praise; to exalt (thefreedictionary.com).” So if we are to glorify God through music, we are to sing or play instruments to Him as an honorary action. Playing nurturing music for children that focus on God does just that.

Edify means “to instruct especially so as to encourage intellectual, moral, or spiritual improvement (thefreedictionary.com).” To edify children through music simply means to play songs that encourage their intellectual, moral or spiritual being. The lyrics don’t have to be directly about God but ones that affirm children, and develop and build their self identity by teaching them they are loved miracles.

Encourage means to “inspire with hope, courage, or confidence; hearten (http://www.answers.com/topic).” In 1 Thessalonians 5:11, God tells us to “encourage one another and build each other up.” By playing positive music for our children, we give them hope and comfort. Music gives them courage to try new things like dancing. Music gives them confidence by building their listening skills and cognitive development.

So when you play Christian music for your children, remember it doesn’t have to be songs about specific Bible stories. It can be songs that glorify God, edify and encourage children.

ThumbPeople’s, You Are Thumbuddy Christian kids songs do just that! This nurturing music for children affirms kids with songs like, “The Miracle You Are,” “Forever You’ll Be Loved By Me” and “Very Blessed.” It also encourages kids with songs like “Always Believe,” “You Make a Difference” and “Be Your Best.”

Encouraging Children Through Christian Kids Songs

“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” (Ephesians 4:29)
I find that some people are naturals at encouraging others. Every time they open their mouth, something positive comes out. They have a personality that beams with joy and everyone they come into contact with is encouraged just by their presence.Christian Kids Songs

Other people, like me, have to make a conscious effort to encourage others. I’ve been in situations where I think to myself, “I appreciate (name) because (reason)” or “I’m thankful that (name) did (what he/she did)” etc… but I never verbalize it.

To encourage means “to inspire with hope, courage, or confidence; hearten (www.answers.com).” As Christians, God tells us to encourage each other in 1 Thessalonians 5:11: “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up.”

I’ve always wanted to be a more encouraging person and since having my daughter, I make a conscious daily effort to do so. I encourage her in many ways; one is by playing nurturing music for children. Christian kids songs are encouraging to children because they reflect positive values and teach about God.

Playing Christian kids songs encourages my daughter by building her confidence and talents. It also gives her creativity and a chance for interpretation or experiment. She learns to dance, sing, jump, cry, laugh etc… Turning on nurturing music for children is like opening the doors to a new dimensional play world where she is free to express herself however she wants.

As children grow and develop, they need as much encouragement as possible to carry them through life. Playing nurturing children’s music is a great way to teach kids about God, encourage them and build them up.

Build up your children with ThumbPeople’s, You Are Thumbuddy Christian kids songs. This nurturing music for children will build their self worth with lyrics that affirm that they are precious miracles, handcrafted by God while the messages encourage your child to make positive life choices.

Glorifying God Through Christian Kids Songs

“Behold, children are a gift of the LORD, the fruit of the womb is a reward.” Psalm 127:34

Children are a gift from God. Whether or not a parent planned to have children, they were given a miraculous gift that opens doors to new ways of glorifying God. One of those doors is the opportunity to nurture children through Christian kids songs.Christian Kids Songs

Playing Christian music for children teaches them about God and that they truly are a gift. It also glorifies God by teaching about Him. Nurturing music for children can be many things including lyrics that overtly teach about God, but also ones that edify and encourage kids. Let’s take a look at what it means to glorify God through music.

The term glory or glorify is often thrown around in Christian circles, so it’s important to stop and think about what it really means. To glorify means to “give glory, honor or high praise; to exalt (thefreedictionary.com).” So if we are to glorify God through music, we are to sing or play instruments to Him as an honorary action. Pastor Eric Bargerhuff wrote “to glorify God is to praise and worship Him for who He is and to enhance His reputation above anything else in the universe (http://ericbargerhuff.blogspot.com).”

So in order to have music that glorifies God, it should be focused on Him or somehow putting Him above all else. One of the ways we can do this is by choosing Christian kids songs that teach our children about God and His character. It can be difficult for kids (and adults) to understand a God that we do not see; so learning about His character is crucial to our relationship with Him.

God has many character traits that children should learn about including that He is knowledgeable, creative, forgiving, honest and capable. By playing nurturing music for children, we can glorify God by teaching about Him.

ThumbPeople’s, You Are Thumbuddy Christian kids songs bless your child as the lyrics help children discover that they are forever loved, “Wonderful” and “Very Blessed.”

Creating Family Memories Through Christian Kids Songs

One of my favorite things to do when I was little was figure skate. I loved the beautiful costumes, the fabulous shows and all the wonderful friends I made in my years at the rink. But my fondest memories of being a competitive skater are the 5:00 a.m. car rides my dad and I made to the ice arena every morning. We knew it took exactly six minutes door to door, and we knew what songs we could blast on the CD player in those six minutes.

It still blows me away that well into my elementary school years; I chose to sing Christian kids songs and other nurturing music for children rather than cranking up the current pop music. I believe there were a couple of reasons why I chose this type of music. One was because I truly enjoyed it, but mostly, it was because it was something I could share with my dad. These 5:00 a.m. memories belonged to us, and even as a kid, I knew it was a truly special experience.

It is memories like these that inspire me to choose a little more wisely and encourage a little more strongly what my children listen to today. From the time they were infants we had positive, upbeat messages playing in our car. After all, I knew they were strapped in their car seats with no where to go! We would have wonderful sing-a-longs to great music and every one was happy.

Today, Christian kids songs are fun, bubbly and full of good messages. I can’t think of anything I would rather have stuck in my child’s head all day than that they are wonderful children, perfectly and lovingly made by God. I hold tight the memories of dancing around the living room to nurturing kids songs with my children because I realize way too soon they will be done dancing with me. And then I will pray that they continue to sing and dance with Christian kids songs in their hearts!

I am fortunate that my parents were people of faith, and that they encouraged me to become one as well. Sometimes I am overwhelmed by the responsibility I carry as a parent of four children. To raise them in a Godly way, while also allowing them to prosper and be carefree is quite a task. I am certain that my love for music, and the Christian kids songs that were always playing in our car helped shape me into the woman of faith that I am today.

ThumbPeople’s, “You Are Thumbuddy” Christian kids songs instill positive self worth as your children hear that they are unique, precious miracles – unconditionally loved and gifted to make a difference in the world.

Recognizing how powerfully we are affected by the words we take in, ThumbPeople has created the Thumbuddy children’s book series, nurturing music for children, preschool curriculum and soaking music that strengthens the parent/child bond while empowering kids and parents to use their God-given gifts and talents.

Building A Positive Self-Image Through Christian kids songs

I have always been rather choosy about what my children listen to in the car. I gave up listening to grown up music the first time I realized that children’s music could pacify my screaming daughter. From the time my kids were infants, we have had positive, upbeat messages playing in our car. After all, I knew they were strapped in their car seats with no where to go. We would have wonderful sing-a-longs to great music and every one was happy. Today, Christian kids songs are fun, bubbly and full of good messages. I can’t think of anything I would rather have stuck in my child’s head than that they are wonderful children, perfectly and lovingly made by God.

I will never forget the time my husband and I were listening to our daughter, Hailey, sing to herself through the baby monitor. Hailey was just about three years old at the time, and would typically have a hard time putting herself to sleep. Her twin brother, Ryan, however, fell asleep the minute his head hit the pillow. The problem with this was that they shared a room. My first instinct when I heard Hailey singing was to run upstairs and quiet her before she woke up Ryan. But as we sat there a little longer, we realized she was singing Christian kids songs. In her own little way, she was praising the Lord! The words were all wrong, and it was by no means sung perfectly, but it was truly one of the most beautiful things we had ever heard! That night we knew that diligently picking through music selections was paying off. By listening to Christian kids songs in the car and by having dance parties in our living room to nurturing music for children, we were helping Hailey to learn and know she is loved by Jesus. My husband I sat there feeling proud of our little munchkin until we heard her twin brother yell, “Hailey, be quiet!”

I doubt there is anyone out there who would argue with me on the strength of words. I can’t imagine there is a woman around who can’t remember having her spirit crushed by something someone said to her when she was a little girl.

Words are powerful! It is crucial that we remember this while we are raising our little ones. When we encourage our children to listen to music that has positive, affirming messages, we are using the influential media in our favor. I do not believe there is anything more important than a child’s self image and self-esteem, and I wholly believe that having your child listen to music with positive, Christian messages and uplifting words will build an image of themselves that they (and you) will be proud of.

ThumbPeople has created nurturing music for children that helps them to see themselves from God’s perspective – unique and precious miracles with amazing gifts, talents and potential!

Creating Memories That Last A Lifetime Through Christian Kids Songs

It is crucial that we get our children listening to nurturing music for children at an early age. The earlier they believe that they are special, the deeper it will root and the harder those roots will be to break. I still listen to praise and worship music, and I always feel better about myself and my situation when I am rockin’ with the Lord.

If one of the Christian kids songs comes on the radio or my IPOD that my dad and I used to sing, my heart gets happy, and I am flooded with memories. Those moments together opened up doors for my dad to talk to me about my faith. Those songs allowed my dad to tell me how special and unique and loved I was. He called them his “tablets,” I knew they were life lessons, but regardless, I realized how blessed I was to be sharing my faith with my dad. These are the kind of bonding moments Christian kids songs can create.

It is proven that kids learn better through music; that is why we sing our “ABC’s.” Is there anything more important to learn and believe than that we are children of God and that He loves us unconditionally? No, it’s as simple as that. I urge you to plug in some good Christian kids songs this afternoon and have a little dance party in your living room. I guarantee that everyone in the house will feel awesome when you are done!

You know that annoying little commercial jingle that gets stuck in your head and you end up singing it all day? It proves something – that music and the messages contained in the lyrics are contagious. Advertisers have known and applied this forever. I bet you parents can still recall a commercial jingle that was popular when you were a kid – can’t you?

Well, years from now, instead of having your children remembering advertising jingles, how about having them recall encouraging, loving messages that will strengthen them and support them throughout life?

ThumbPeople’s Christian kids songs relay to your children that they are a miracle, very blessed, one-of-a-kind and forever loved.

Encourage your family with ThumbPeople’s positive kid’s books, nurturing music for children, preschool curriculum and soaking music that will resonate uplifting messages within their hearts for years to come!

3 Great Ways to Help Children Remember Christian Kid’s Songs

If you are like me, nothing melts your heart more than to hear your child singing a Christian kid’s song they learned. For example, I had just left my daughter’s room the other night, when I heard a faint noise coming from that direction. As I perked my ears, I could hear her singing one of the Christian kid’s songs that we sing before bed. It’s a song about the fruit of the Spirit, and it was absolutely adorable to hear her try and get the fruits in the right order.

Children are like sponges for learning Christian kid’s songs. But this seems to be especially true if you add actions to the songs. Whether it’s the joy they get from watching a big person move around, or simply learning the actions themselves, there is something special about action songs.

As any of you who have experience with children know, they also like repetitiveness. Christian kid’s songs are no exception. For instance, our son is practically addicted to one particular Christian song. It’s not a Christian kid’s song, per se, but every time he turns the music on, he goes right to that song on the CD. Then, there is my daughter. During tuck in time at night, I generally ask her which songs she would like me to sing to her. I don’t know why I ask, because the answer is always the same.
Given their desire for routine and repetitiveness, I believe that it’s very important for parents to pay attention to content when selecting Christian kid’s songs for their children.

  • Share Christian kid’s songs and Christian mp3 songs that have Biblical content, because grass withers and flowers fade, but the Word of the Lord stands forever.
  • If you can create actions with the children’s Christian songs, chances are the children will remember the songs much easier.
  • Throughout the whole process of choosing what music our children listen to, let’s remember to pray for the leading of the Holy Spirit. He will help us!

When possible, have your music do your parenting for you! Music can encourage, affirm and plant seeds. ThumbPeople’s, “You Are Thumbuddy” kid’s music is a good example. Their songs encourage kids to be their best, affirm that they are precious miracles and plants the seeds of faith to “Always Believe.”

How to find the Right Style of Christian Songs and Music

When many people think of Christian songs and music, old fashioned hymns and pipe organ music comes to mind. But if you take a closer look, there is an amazing array of styles and genres that differ widely from one another, yet all share the common desire to glorify Christian Songs MusicGod.

Far from pipe organ music, Christian songs can be found in just about every contemporary music genre. And so it should be as Psalm 149:1 instructs us to “Sing to the Lord a NEW song …”

Let’s look at a few “new songs…”

  • Acoustic/Folk music - Folk music is loosely defined as any style of music which represents a community and is played on whatever instruments are available with emphasis on passion for the topic rather than musical prowess. Certainly, passion is a key element in creating Christian music! Acoustic simply means the instruments are not electronically enhanced or modified. These characteristics lend themselves perfectly to Christian music and Christian music CDs with an acoustic/folk sound to them abound in most music stores.
  • Rap and hip hop – Rap and hip hop music is not usually associated with Christianity, but this is a genre that continues to enjoy great popularity, especially with younger listeners. Most Christian rap and hip hop artists feel a strong call to unite cultures and bring together young and old through their music. Christian hip hop artists are often found on the Christian Top Songs Chart and are currently some of the top downloaded Christian mp3 songs.
  • christiansongmusic.comChristian kids music – Music is a big part of our kid’s lives. Sound tracks to their favorite movies, music incorporated into their play, activities centered around dance and choir, children’s ministry music and the common site of seeing kids with headphones on, is reflective of how much music influences our kids. The great thing about Christian music today is that it is available in whatever style your child prefers. A great example is ThumbPeople’s, “You Are Thumbuddy” kid’s music. It’s a great “peanut butter and jelly” combination of fun music your kids will love with positive, affirming lyrics that parents will appreciate too!
